Jennifer Lopez‘s upcoming nationwide tour, initially titled ‘This Is Me… Now: The Tour’ to support her latest album, This Is Me… Now, has undergone a rebranding to ‘This Is Me… Live,’ with a focus on her greatest hits, as revealed by a report from Variety.
The sudden cancellation of seven shows in August 2024 (in Cleveland, Raleigh, Nashville, Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans, and Houston) has been attributed to low and weak ticket sales. This development comes just weeks after the “On the Floor” singer, 54, abruptly called off several tour dates without any apparent explanation.
Jennifer Lopez Rebrands Her 'This Is Me...Now' Tour To Focus On 'Greatest Hits' While Experiencing Low Ticket Sales
In addition, this occurred as Lopez continues to generate memes and spark fan criticism for her romantic drama Prime Video film, This Is Me Now: A Love Story. The project centers on a fictitious storyline that draws inspiration from Lopez's relationship with husband Ben Affleck and her challenges as a "serial romantic."
The "If You Had My Love" singer's recent tour rebranding effort indicates a shift in focus from promoting solely her ninth studio album's songs to showcasing her entire discography. This could attract a wider audience who may not have previously resonated with her most recent work, as Variety points out.
This Is Me… Now had a challenging start upon its release in February, as it appeared to have difficulty attracting listeners, with only 14,000 copies sold during the first week.
Although the record managed to debut as the leader of the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart due to physical sales totaling 11,000, it ultimately stayed at No. 38 on the Billboard 200 chart. This makes it the second out of nine albums by Lopez to not reach the top 10 in its initial week of release.
Insiders also dished to Billboard recently that Lopez's aforementioned tour dates in support of the album were "scotched due to routing issues," but "new shows have been added and will be announced soon."
Jennifer Lopez Slammed For High Ticket Prices For Upcoming Tour
Lopez invested a staggering $20 million in a three-pronged self-financed project comprising of her latest album, the narrative musical film titled This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, and a documentary titled, The Greatest Love Story Never Told. These artistic endeavors were released on Amazon's Prime Video streaming service simultaneously in February.
On X (formerly Twitter), users continue to react to news of Lopez's tour rebranding and its alleged low ticket sales. "Nobody asked for this to begin with," one wrote in a thread about the tour as another added: "I don't think the name of the tour is the problem." Someone else replied: "This is me…..flopping." One other chimed in: "She hasn't had a hit in 12 years, she's not a music icon so wtf did she expect?"
Lopez was previously criticized on social media for the price of her This Is Me...Now tour tickets, as some allegedly ranged from $1,000 per ticket to $3,500 and over, according to fans on TikTok.
