Valentine’s Day may be fast approaching, but one person who’s clearly not feeling the romance is Justin Trudeau‘s estranged wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.
Sophie, who was married to the former Canadian Prime Minister for 18 years before they announced their separation in 2023, has once again opened up about her current chapter. While she didn’t mention Katy Perry – who Justin went Instagram-official with at the end of last year – directly, the timing and tone made it clear what she was alluding to…
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau's Candid Newsletter About Being Single At 50
In her Closer Together newsletter that she sent out earlier this month, Sophie reflected on how Valentine's Day can feel for those navigating life on their own. She spoke candidly about the challenges of being "uncoupled at 50," and learning to live with what she described as "midlife singlehood."
"Fine. I'll admit it. On the surface, being 'uncoupled' at 50 on Valentine's Day doesn't make me feel amazing," she confessed. She then noted that the month of February "can feel especially loud" for people in similar situations, but stressed that this phase of life shouldn't be seen as a personal failure…
"For millions of women (and men!) the answer hasn't always been simple. We've been taught – sometimes gently, sometimes harshly – that our bodies, our emotions, our authenticity need adjusting to be accepted. When we spend years reshaping ourselves to fit in, our nervous system learns vigilance instead of ease," the mental health advocate continued.
She went on to frame self-love as an ongoing, conscious process, adding: "In many ways, self-love is being aware of our defense mechanisms and adaptive behaviors. It's about unlearning them and choosing to change some of our emotional habits. Self-love is a practice."

Sophie has also previously acknowledged how much attention her ex-husband's love life has brought her way. Speaking on the Arlene Is Alone podcast back in November – around the same time Justin and Katy made their red carpet debut on the "Firework" singer's 41st birthday – she addressed the situation very candidly…
"You know, we're human beings and stuff affects us. How you react to stuff is your decision," she candidly told host Arlene Dickinson. "So, I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise."
She also admitted: "I'll let myself be disappointed by someone, I'll let myself be angry, be sad. And I know for a fact how important it is, as a mental health advocate, to feel those emotions."

Insider Previously Claimed Sophie Was 'Devastated' By Justin Trudeau And Katy Perry PDA Pictures
Insiders mentioned at the end of last year that the mom-of-three was "devastated" by her ex's romance with the "Roar" singer. At the time, a source said she was doing her best to avoid dwelling on it, and instead focus on their three children, Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.
Referencing those now-infamous PDA pictures on the former American Idol judge's yacht in October 2025, an insider said at the time: "She's putting on a brave face publicly, but she's devastated. Seeing those images was like being punched in the stomach."
