The rift between brothers Prince William and Prince Harry has reportedly taken its toll on Kate Middleton, as a royal insider has suggested that the Duchess of Cambridge is “really, really upset” about everything that has happened since Harry and Meghan’s departure from the royal family earlier this year. We aren’t surprised to hear this, given the revelations that came out in Christopher Andersen’s explosive new book, Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan, which alleged that Prince Harry and Kate had a very close relationship once upon a time.
According to the insider, the brothers’ feud – which escalated even further when Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in January this year, and when the allegations of racism came out in the infamous Oprah Winfrey interview that aired back in March – has not been easy on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, although it has made the husband and wife “closer” than ever!
"Everything with Harry and Meghan has been hugely stressful, but if anything, it's pulled her and William closer together," the insider reportedly told People, which featured the Duchess of Cambridge on the cover in honor of her upcoming 40th birthday on January 9th.
"She was upset about it because William was so upset. Seeing her husband so distraught was tough," the insider added, in reference to the allegations Harry and Meghan made about someone in the royal family asking about the color of Archie's skin before he was born. After the interview aired, Prince William told reporters, "We are very much not a racist family." It was later alleged that the unnamed royal was Prince Charles, but spokespeople for the Prince of Wales denied it, simply writing, "This is fiction and not worth further comment."
Although Kate appears to be upset about losing her once very enviable friendship with her brother-in-law Prince Harry (and of course, seeing her husband's relationship with his younger brother change) insiders have hinted that she might not feel the same way about things changing with Meghan, as it's been reported several times that the two were never close.
"Meghan would agree with the assessment that the duchesses were not the best of friends. Their relationship hadn’t progressed much since she was Harry’s girlfriend," royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote in their 2020 book, Finding Freedom. The book also goes on to note that a source told the two authors that Kate felt that she and Meghan didn’t have much in common, "other than the fact that they lived at Kensington Palace." Yikes! Will 2022 be the year that the brothers' relationship improves? Only time will tell!
