Kate Middleton looked as chic and elegant as ever when she planted a wild cherry tree in Dean’s Yard at Westminster Abbey in honor of the late Queen Elizabeth II on December 14th. The event was part of The Queen’s Green Canopy, an initiative to celebrate the late monarch’s Platinum Jubilee that saw over one million trees planted across the nation in her honor – and the new Princess of Wales certainly made sure she dressed to impress for the occasion!

Kate Middleton Recycles Holland Cooper Tartan Coat

The Princess of Wales, 40, kept out the chill in a longline dark green and navy blue tartan Holland Cooper double breasted coat featuring statement gold buttons on the front and sleeves. Eagle-eyed Duchess of Cambridge fans will notice that this isn’t the first time the queen of recycling has worn the ‘Blackwatch’ tartan coat as she previously wore it in a ‘Remembrance with the Royal British Legion and the Scouts’ video on November 11th, 2021.

How Did The Princess Of Wales Style The Coat In 2022?

As we all know, the mom-of-three is all about sustainable fashion – which was more than evident on her and her husband’s recent trip to the U.S. which saw her wearing another chic tartan piece – so we aren’t surprised to see her go for something she has worn before! On this occasion, she teamed her stunning coat with an Iris & Ink Éloise green ribbed merino wool-blend turtleneck sweater – she’s having a huge green moment right now, and we’re here for it! – and the matching Ernestine midi skirt, finished off with some navy suede boots with a chunky heel, to perfectly complement the blue tones in the tartan coat.

She wore her hair in her signature bouncy straight style complete with some glamorous curls on the ends, and went for minimal accessories, no doubt to let the outfit do all of the talking!

The Queen’s Green Canopy

The official Westminster Abbey Instagram account shared some pictures of the Princess of Wales planting the wild cherry tree, alongside a very informative caption about the event. “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales dedicated a tree in Dean’s Yard at Westminster Abbey to mark the memory of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” the caption began. “The tree is a wild cherry tree (Prunus avium Plena) from the estate of the Duchy of Cornwall. It replaces a horse chestnut tree that was rotten and suffered with Summer Sudden Limb Drop earlier this year.”

“The Princess shovelled the last spadefuls of earth on to the tree and unveiled by a plaque which reads: ‘This wild cherry tree, a gift from the Duchy of Cornwall, was dedicated in memory of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II  by Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales on 14th December 2022.’ It forms part of The Queen’s Green Canopy.”

The caption also went into a little more detail about The Queen’s Green Canopy, saying it is “a nationwide initiative created to mark this year’s Platinum Jubilee of HM The late Queen’s accession to the throne.” The caption concluded: “The Princess of Wales was welcomed to the Abbey by the Dean, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, and members of the Chapter of Westminster. The Abbey’s Head Gardener, Jan Pancheri, and her colleagues Cormac Connolly and Danny Bitten, were presented to the Princess of Wales.”
