Kate Middleton, 41, and Meghan Markle, 42, haven’t seen eye to eye for many years – but if we are to believe recent reports, it might be because the Princess of Wales actually saw the Duchess of Sussex as a “rival” from the very start, and was “uninterested” in forming a bond with her.
Omid Scobie dropped some bombshells about the royal family in his new book Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, which came out on November 28th – and Kate and Meghan’s relationship is one of the many things he dished on!

Kate Middleton Was Reportedly Never Interested In A Relationship With Meghan Markle
According to Scobie, who is considered to be a close friend of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Princess of Wales isn't too upset about losing contact with her sister-in-law, as she was never interested in pursuing a relationship with her when she first joined the royal family.
He and Carolyn Durand touched on this in their 2020 book, Finding Freedom, and referenced that the two women had very little in common, while Prince Harry also recalled a few instances which he thought proved that Kate wasn't a fan of Meghan in his memoir, Spare. An example of this is Kate reportedly "grimacing" when Meghan asked to borrow her lip gloss, among other things.
Scobie elaborated on the frosty relationship between Kate and Meghan in Endgame, and said that Meghan actually started out wanting to bond with Kate, especially because she was once in the same position as Meghan.
"For Meghan, who found much of her time as a working royal a lonely and isolated experience, there was a hope that Kate would be someone she could at least turn to for an encouraging word during her lowest points, including her emotional difficulties during her pregnancy," Scobie wrote, adding, "Kate, however, was uninterested in forming this kind of bond with Meghan."
For what it's worth, the Princess of Wales doesn't feel the same way about Prince Harry – or at least, she didn't when she first met him. The two had quite a close bond before Meghan came into the picture, and he famously once described her as "the sister I've never had and always wanted." A royal insider reportedly told Scobie that Kate "was close to Harry, and she will always look back fondly on those moments and the relationship he had with their children," but "there is no way she could ever trust them after all their interviews."

According to GB News, which featured parts of the book that were translated from French magazine Paris Match, one part of Endgame detailed the Princess of Wales meeting the former Suits actress for the first time back in 2017. And it seems like both Kate and Prince William had already formed an opinion on Meghan before they even met!
The book mentions how Prince William would never have accepted a Hollywood actress as his wife due to their different values, which Kate reportedly also agreed with. Scobie also suggested in his book that Kate immediately saw Meghan as her rival – which Prince Harry also touched on in Spare – and according to some of the sources he spoke to, regularly "giggled" about her with friends and palace aides.
"[Kate] spent more time talking about Meghan than with Meghan," a close friend of the Prince and Princess of Wales reportedly said. Scobie also quoted a source who worked with Kate in the past, and told him that "she can be cold if she doesn't like someone," adding that she was "never a fan" of Meghan. Scobie confirms in the book that the women have not directly communicated since the end of 2019, adding, "Every time she hears about Meghan, Kate shudders and giggles."
