A recent ruling found that Katy Perry did not actually copy music by Christian rapper, Flame, to create her 2013 hit, “Dark Horse.” Naturally, the singer-songwriter is overjoyed and videos of her reaction to the news continue to trend on social media. The years-long copyright case finally came to an end, and Perry celebrated her major win onstage at the March 11th show of “Play,” her current Las Vegas residency.

While performing “Dark Horse,” Perry sang “So just be sure,” and then yelled out, “before you take me to court,” (instead of singing the original lyrics of “before you give it up to me”). She then added, “’cause I’m a Scorpio, b*tch!” The 13-time GRAMMY nominee impressively sang atop a giant, red rocking horse, fitting for the song and its success.

As seen in fan-shot videos, her crowd erupted into overwhelming cheers and claps in response. The day just before this performance, Perry won in the legal battle for “Dark Horse.” As fans remember, rapper Flame sued Perry in 2014, and claimed that her popular song heavily borrowed from his track “Joyful Noise.”

Flame did win a large settlement after this, but in 2020, a judge overturned that decision, as Bustle writes, since the parts that Flame claimed Perry stole “were apparently too basic to be copyrightable.” The appeals court’s March 10th ruling may finally mark the end for all “Dark Horse”-centered legal drama, and Perry celebrated her victory, and hilariously attributed her enduring determination to her astrological sign. Congrats!
