Kelly Clarkson has had a difficult year amid a divorce and custody battle with her estranged husband Brandon Blackstock. But things have started to look up for the 38-year-old songstress as court documents have awarded Clarkson primary physical custody of her two children, stating that the pair would have difficulty co-parenting “due to trust issues between them.”

According to the documents, “The Court finds that under the circumstances present in this case, the interest in providing stability and continuity for the minor children weighs in favor of Petitioner having primary custody.” While Clarkson will have primary physical custody of her two children, River (6) and Remington (4), the ruling states that Blackstock will FaceTime with the children every day.
Clarkson broke the news of the divorce from her partner of 7 years in September during the Season 2 premiere of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” where the star suggested that the split may have come as an unexpected surprise. She admitted, “2020 has brought a lot of change also to my personal life...definitely didn’t see anything coming that came.”
PEOPLE magazine has reported that Blackstock “is seeking $436K in monthly spousal and child support,” which would net out to $5.2 million per year if things go his way. Those are some expensive kids! Blackstock already has two older children from his first marriage named Savannah and Seth.
Divorce is messy as it is, so we’re glad Clarkson was able to put the custody battle behind her at the very least and spend some time with her children. Hopefully things remain amicable and the former couple is able to find a way to co-parent effectively for their children’s sake. 2020 has been a rough one!
