Black History Month has only just begun and Khloe Kardashian is already making waves with an ill-chosen emoji that she used in a tweet this past week. Kardashian took to Twitter on February 2, sharing a string of dark skinned facepalm emojis, and fans were less than pleased.

The Kardashian family is no stranger to controversy, and Twitter users were frustrated to see Kardashian seemingly appropriating a darker skin tone in a tweet after catching a tan. One Twitter user wrote, “That’s the wrong emoji for you colonizer…”

Fans were particularly annoyed because Kardashian went out of her way to change the skin tone of the emoji, using the lighter skinned facepalm just one day before in another tweet. However, the lighter emoji also has blonde hair, which one fan commented does not match Khloe’s, to which she replied, “You read my f**king mind! That’s why you’re my daughter. Seriously every time I use that emoji I always say to myself I have to change it to the brunette version.”

It appears that Khloe finally made that change, but the brunette version no longer matches her skin tone. Many people did not hold back, with one angry Twitter user writing, “Dear Khloe, here’s a newsflash for you: Having a Black daughter isn’t transferable..” Another scathed, “This the skin tone you chose… during Black History Month?”

While the tweet may seem insignificant, it’s ultimately another example of Kardashian appropriating the black identity just as she has a number of times before. It’s certainly better to be called out for using the wrong hair color emoji than the wrong skin tone!
