This move has been compared to that of her ex-husband, Kanye West, who notoriously interrupted Taylor Swift‘s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Many viewers were outraged by Kardashian’s interruption after a clip of the incident was uploaded to Instagram, leading to a slew of reactions online.

Kim Kardashian Interrupts Hair Stylist Chris Appleton’s Speech: A ‘Kanye Move?’
Kardashian was supposed to present Appleton with his award at the April 23rd event, and then naturally, he would have time for his acceptance speech. Before he could say a word, the SKIMS founder headed behind the lectern to discuss Appleton’s relationship with The White Lotus actor, Lukas Gage.
The 42-year-old reality star said of Appleton: “Let me say one thing really quick. I’m so happy he’s in a relationship right now and that it’s out there, because I’m so tired of all my girl friends and guy friends asking me if you’re available, and who my hot guy is who is always with me.”
After People Magazine uploaded a video of Kardashian’s actions to Instagram, social media users headed to the post’s comment section to criticize her move. “Interrupting a winners speech? To make it about her POV? Wonder where she learnt that,” one wrote as another added, “she 100% pulled a Kanye.”

Someone else replied, “Can’t stand to let someone else enjoy the spotlight” as another chimed in, “SO disrespectful of her. But what else is new.” Other commenters agreed, “I found her comment inappropriate,” and someone wrote in disbelief, “she really just interrupted this man’s speech.”
In 2009, as these dismayed fans and critics are recalling, Swift had just snagged the trophy for ‘Best Video by a Female Artist’ when Ye stormed onto the stage. He memorably snatched the microphone and told her, “I’mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!”

As for Kardashian and Appleton’s relationship, the Kardashians star has had her hair done by the 39-year-old stylist for years, and he notably created some of her now most iconic looks, such as her blonde tresses that coincided with Marilyn Monroe’s gown at the 2022 Met Gala, her IG-ready wispy curtain bangs and more.

Appleton and Euphoria star Gage were first spotted together in February 2023 and revealed to be dating. Last month, they tied the knot in Las Vegas, and Kardashian was one of six guests in attendance, according to Page Six.
Gage also attended the Daily Front Row Fashion L.A. Awards with his new husband Appleton, and witnessed the now viral Kardashian-interrupting-Appleton’s-speech-moment.
