Kim Kardashian, no stranger to public scrutiny, recently came under fire once again after photos from her partnership with Seventy One Gin were released to the media—prompting many to note, “She doesn’t even drink!”
The reality star and media mogul, 42, was the subject of a new ad campaign by the gin brand, wherein she posed in a sheer lacy minidress while holding a glass of the company’s signature spirit. Kim recently appeared on Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP podcast to share her decision to incorporate alcohol back into her life: “I feel like I just gotta let loose a little bit,” said the Skkn founder. “Cause why not, you know? I just feel like I work a lot and I focus…all day after school then it’s like product meetings and testing things and packaging meetings and everything.” Interestingly, she confided to Paltrow that her preferred after-school-special wasn’t a gin drink at all, but rather, “a little shot of pineapple and a shot of tequila.”
Previously, Kim had been fairly vocal about her “dry” lifestyle, telling People magazine “I do not drink alcohol at all. My sisters drink, so when they get a little crazy, I am there to pull them down. I’ve never really been a drinker. I hate the taste of alcohol.”

The aspiring lawyer’s flip on drinking alcohol has social media buzzing, especially after debuting as the face of a spirit brand. “Just accepting checks from whoever, whatever brand again,” said one Reddit user. One reply mused, “I’m wondering how Kendall feels about this,” referencing the fact that Kim’s sister Kendall Jenner is the founder of her own brand, 818 Tequila—which may have been a more fitting partnership for Kim, considering her aforementioned drink of choice. Or maybe not: “Remember her shooting a giant glass of 818 and gagging lollll” said one Redditor.

The Daily Mail, who debuted the photos, noted that Kim’s photos are part of an ongoing portrait series that have included friends of Seventy One Gin owner Mert Alas posing with the spirit, including other big names like Madonna, Kate Moss, and Jessica Chastain. Alas shot the images himself, a nod to his fashion photography background. According to the Mirror, “Alas has seemingly made gin the drink to be seen with and his playfully provocative, yet luxurious [gin] has become a firm favourite of the jet set, sipped at only the most fabulous parties and bars in Europe. It is served in martinis and on the rocks—far too precious to dilute with tonic water.”
It doesn’t appear that Kim has made any public comment about her partnership with Seventy One Gin aside from her Instagram post, but considering the questions being asked on social media, it’s likely she’ll address her change of heart and new partnership shortly.
