King Charles has finally set into motion the process of officially stripping his younger brother, Prince Andrew, of his royal titles and evicting him from the Royal Lodge. King Charles 'Rattled' By Prince Andrew Heckler
During a visit to Lichfield Cathedral last week, King Charles was heckled by a passerby as he shook hands with members of the public. "How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?" the heckler shouted, "Have you asked the police to cover up for Andrew? Have you asked the police to cover up for Andrew, Charles?"
While King Charles, 76, ignored the heckler and continued chatting with well-wishers, royal experts report that the experience "deeply rattled" him. Later that week, on October 30th, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Andrew is no longer a Prince.
"His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew," the statement reads. "Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor."
In addition to his titles, he will also lose his residence, the Royal Lodge in Windsor. "His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence," the statement continues. "Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease, and he will move to alternative private accommodation."
Prince Charles Is 'Considering His Legacy'
There are most definitely many reasons King Charles made this move, with pressure from his son, Prince William, being one of them. But another influence is his own legacy. Royal media commentator Meredith Constant weighs in: "King Charles has not had the reign he envisioned."
"He waited an unprecedented 70+ years to take the throne, and his first full year was largely out of the public eye, battling cancer," Constant said. "He is surely considering his legacy, one that he hopes will not be tainted by his younger brother."
