Best Lean Proteins For Weight Loss & Metabolism

Lean proteins are a crucial component of a balanced diet, and they come in various forms such as chicken, turkey, fish, tofu, and legumes. These proteins are low in fat and high in essential amino acids, making them not only important for muscle growth and repair but also for boosting metabolism and aiding in weight loss. Additionally, they promote a feeling of fullness, reducing overall calorie intake and supporting healthy weight management.

"White meat chicken, white flesh fish, and turkey breast, are very low in dietary fat and high in protein. This is great for helping build or maintain lean muscle tissue, keep you feeling full for long periods of time, and keeping your caloric intake under control. This is great for boosting your metabolism and losing weight, especially since this can prevent you from wanting to snack or overeat throughout the day and can keep your energy levels consistent," Feder states.

He also adds that Greek yogurt is another great option because it carries many benefits for your GI tract, which helps with a better overall metabolism. "Greek yogurt is naturally low in lactose, fat, and is high in both protein and gut healthy probiotics. This is great for building or maintaining lean muscle tissue, keeping you feeling full for long periods of time, and supporting gut health. This can help reduce inflammation in the GI tract which can help boost your metabolism and aid in weight loss."

The Bottom Line

Incorporating a variety of lean proteins into your diet can be a smart strategy for those looking to slim down and rev up their metabolism, and fortunately there are a ton of ways to do so as Feder says.

"You can have white meat chicken, white flesh fish, and turkey breast as part of your breakfast, lunch, or dinner. These lean proteins are typically very mild in flavor and can be utilized in a variety of dishes. Greek yogurt can be enjoyed as part of a breakfast with mixed berries or can be used to replace higher fat dairy options such as sour cream, heavy cream, and milk. Additionally, it can be used in smoothies or protein shakes." By incorporating these helpful tips, you'll be well on your way to a boosted metabolism and a slimmer yet healthier appearance.
