Leonardo DiCaprio Says He Feels 'Emotionally' 32 In A New Interview
This summer, after turning 50, the Titanic icon sat down with famous filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson for Esquire to talk about turning 50, his film career, upcoming projects he'd like to take on both on and off-screen, and more. It's the first time in a while he's sat down for an in-depth conversation, and because he was talking to a friend in the industry, he seemingly opened up a lot more than usual.
At one point, the actor and director began joking back and forth about the more age-related questions the publication wanted him to answer, including, "If you didn't know how old you are, how old are you right now?" While it seems like a fair question, Leo had an interesting spin on it.
"Thirty-two," he responded.
Later, Paul brought up turning 50 this year, and Leo joked about feeling younger once again, responding, "You turned emotionally thirty-five last year," rephrasing the question.
"Your age is fifty, but your emotional maturity is thirty-two," added Anderson.
Getting a little more serious, the environmental advocate opened up about aging, saying, "It creates a feeling like you have a desire to just be more honest and not waste your time. I can only imagine how the next few decades are going to progress."
The Internet Reacts To Leonardo's Comments On Aging On Social Media
Although the Oscar-winner goes over a lot in his new interview, his comments regarding his emotional age really stumped a lot of internet users. His age is a pretty common thing people talk about, especially when they're mentioning his love life. Over his career, the actor and '90s heartthrob has controversially dated women who are younger than him, and as he gets older, the age gaps have become more intense and noticeable.
For instance, some of his more famous younger girlfriends include model Kelly Rohrback, who dated him when she was around 21 and he was in his late 30s. Then there was actress Camila Morrone, who is the stepdaughter of Al Pacino, whom he dated when she was 20 and 21 and he was 43.
These days, he's been in a seemingly serious relationship with Italian model Vittoria Ceretti, who is 27 years old, making her slightly older than half his age. While their age gap wasn't really anything new to those who have been following his career, it's still getting some buzz, and people started pointing it out following his comments about being "emotionally" 32.
One X user thought about Leonardo's quote and felt that he only made that comment because "he just likes younger women."
"Nothing like an old fool," added a user, roasting the actor.
"Emotional age is the new decrepit older person excuse in Hollywood," added a user. "Most of Hollywood is emotionally 12."
"More like it's the only way he could try and justify chasing after girls under the age of 25," added a user, backing up those who feel he's "lying" about feeling 32 just to seem cool and younger.
It seems that while the filmmaker may have thought he was being vulnerable and making a good point when he said those things about his age, people are not so convinced, and seemingly would rather he acknowledge the fact that he has a history and alleged preference for dating younger women at 50.
