McDonald’s recently added a chicken version of its Big Mac sandwich to menus after fans had petitioned for it one year earlier.

The poultry version of their bestselling hamburger is receiving mixed reviews, after being a highly-anticipated menu item.

The restaurant chain added the Chicken Big Mac to menus nationwide on October 10th, with the internet almost immediately losing its chill. Many anticipated that McDonald’s launch would reignite the chicken sandwich wars. Let’s take a look at how it’s being recieved!

McDonald’s Tests Chicken Big Mac

The Chicago-based chain originally tested the Chicken Big Mac In select markets in 2022. The company tested the spin-off in Miami in 2022, as well as in the UK the same year.

The reception for the non-red meat version of their iconic burger was well received, with online users calling “good” and “better” than the beef version, although “a bit dry” on online forums.

The customers of the fast food stop weren’t satisfied with the Chicken Big Mac being only a test, and soon used the Internet for what it’s great for: to create a petition calling for the company to make it a permanent menu addition.

“We are devastated,” clothing brand PrettyLittleThing Tweeted on February 11, 2022. “The Chicken Big Mac has been removed from the McDonalds menu due to incredible demand!!!! We want you back.”

Customers Petition For It To Become A Permanent Staple

Customers took their beef–or shall we say, chicken–with the company to Petition.org where one unhappy customer named Natalie Worsnop created an online petition titled ‘Bring Back the Chicken Big Mac Permanently!’ The petition was founded on July 12, 2023 and has received a mere 56 signatures. Worsnop called herself a “devoted McDonald’s fan” who was created the petition to express her “heartfelt desire” to bring the “mouthwatering delight” to menus permanently.

Worsnip describe when the sandwich first hit her home country of the UK it “sold out within hours” and was “only available for a limited time.”

“It was an instant hit, capturing the hearts and taste buds of countless customers,” she poetically wrote on the plea. Never underestimate a (hungry) McDonald’s superfan!

McDonald's Announces Its Nationwide Release On 10/10

We imagine that Worsnip was pretty pleased, along with millions of other McDonald's customers, when on October 3rd the national fast food chain announced it was bringing back the "highly anticipated" Chicken Big Mac on October 10th in a public release.

"With the introduction of the Chicken Big Mac, we’re excited to pay homage to one of our most iconic menu items, the Big Mac, and introduce it to a whole new generation of fans," Tariq Hassan, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer wrote in the announcement. Talk about hype!

Customers Give It A 6/10

The sandwich just arrived in dining rooms nationwide last week, and the reception so far is cool (as compared to the hype it was getting before the launch).

McDonald's customers are giving the new sammy a '6/10' in many online places. The 'first bite was great, then it got weird' wrote one Twitter user. "Like a giant chicken nugget," described another. We're not sure if that's a bad or good thing.

Fox News reports that some customers described it as a "wet, flavorless clump" and slammed it as "bland." Yikes!

But the reviews weren't all bad. One Twitter user posted on October 19th: "I tried the chicken Big Mac and I must say, it slapped!" It's worth a try!
