McDonald’s in Britain is facing a major price increase with its cheeseburgers, and the internet can’t help but wonder if the United States will be next.
As recently reported by Reuters, “McDonald’s (MCD.N) will increase the price of its cheeseburger by 20% in Britain, in the first price hike for the popular item in 14 years as it responds to soaring inflation. The cheeseburger’s price will now rise to 1.19 pounds from 99 pence.” The outlet also mentioned, “McDonald’s will also increase prices by 10p-20p for other items that have been hit by rising costs, the burger chain’s UK chief told customers on Tuesday.”
According to McDonald’s UK & Ireland CEO Alistair Macrow, “We’re living through incredibly challenging times. Just like you, our company, our franchisees who own and operate our restaurants, and our suppliers are all feeling the impact of rising inflation.”

Several users on Reddit have also discussed the prices of cheeseburgers in the United States. One user mentioned that in their area, “A cheeseburger is $1.99. It used to be the perfect snack price but not anymore.”
Another user shared, “[Cheeseburger] of [the United States] near me [costs] $1.59. You can use [the] app and get 20% off and a free one after you buy a few.” They continued, “I usually do a deal of buy one Quarter Pounder/Big Mac/20 Nuggets and get one for free (or $0.29 or $0.01, sometimes it changes). Comes out to about $4.50 for ten Nuggets and a Quarter Pounder, easily the best deal here. Haven’t seen cheeseburger for $0.99 here in many, many years.”
