Meghan Markle‘s lifestyle brand, As Ever, has been in full force. However, one of her latest company ventures is stirring up some controversy.
The Duchess of Sussex recently put out a new luxury bookmark for her company, As Ever, that’s made from high-quality leather and includes a quirky phrase about reading before bed. Although the bookmark is marketed as true to her brand, many internet users noted that the phrase on it has been seen on other brands’ bookmarks in the past, and subsequently, roasted her for it on social media. Meghan Markle Releases A Specialty Bookmark For 'As Ever'
The Suits alum has been making a lot of headlines over the last two years, after she started re-emerging in the public eye alongside her husband, Prince Harry, and shifting her career into a lifestyle guru with her brand, As Ever. The brand is known for its specialty items, beginning with a line of jams, into rose, and now, an essential accessory for bookworms.
For As Ever's first launch of 2026, Meghan and her team released a new item - a black leather bookmark with an inscription made from her handwriting. According to the company's website, the bespoke leather bookmark is "a keepsake designed for those who linger, pause, and return."
"Crafted from supple black leather and finished with gold lettering written in Meghan's handwriting, it rests neatly between pages to mark exactly where you left off," they added.
On the bookmark is the phrase, "Fell asleep here," helping out those who like to read before bed and mark their page. While the $18 bookmark does look like a special keepsake, internet users couldn't help but point out that the phrase looked familiar.

Internet Users Slam Meghan & Accuse Her Of 'Stealing' Her Bookmark Phrase
While the 44-year-old's brand is working hard to emphasize that the special leather bookmark is unique to her lifestyle site, especially when included in part of the "A Moment to Unwind" set with tea and honeycomb, the phrase included on it is one that readers and other internet users have seen before.
As it turns out, "Fell asleep here" has been included on other brands' bookmarks, often being sold through Etsy vendors and other manufacturers. Therefore, when people saw that it was written on Meghan's $18 bookmark, many began slamming her and accusing her of "stealing" the phrase.
One Reddit user slammed the Duchess and wrote that she was "Thieving and grifting her way through life," as another commented that "her track record shows this is her MO."
"She stole the phrase," accused a user.
"She is a genuine phony," added a critic, as another wrote her "'brilliant' bookmark creation is a knock-off."
Although there are likely some legal situations going on behind the scenes to ensure she's allowed to use the phrase for her bookmark, the internet is still unimpressed and disappointed to see that the specialty bookmark isn't as original as they thought it would be.
