Meghan Markle Posts Video Decorating For Christmas On As Ever Instagram Account
The former Suits actress was dressed in a chic brown long-sleeve ensemble in the video, with her hair swept into an elegant bun. She was hanging beige and brown stockings on the fireplace, which was already decorated with greenery with festive twinkling lights on it. Check out the post here.
The With Love, Meghan star captioned the post: "Oh, we see you! Not even Thanksgiving yet and you've already got this in the bag." But the internet had a lot of comments about the Christmas setup, particularly how the traditional festive colors were nowhere to be seen, and in their place were more muted, understated colors.
While these colors are certainly trending right now, critics thought it was slightly ironic that the mom-of-two had chosen this aesthetic, given how she complained about not being able to wear bright colors as a senior royal.
If you recall, Meghan made the comment in her and Prince Harry's controversial Harry & Meghan Netflix docuseries, saying that more prominent family members – like Queen Elizabeth II, Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Kate Middleton – got first pick of bright hues. To avoid matching them, which was another no-no, she said she felt she had to stick to muted tones.
"Most of the time I was in the U.K., I rarely wore color," she said in the docuseries. "To my understanding, you can't ever wear the same color as Her Majesty if there's a group event, but then you also shouldn't be wearing the same color as one of the other more senior members of the family."
She went on at the time: "I wore a lot of muted tones, but it was also so I could just blend in. I'm not trying to stand out here. There was no version of me [that was] joining this family and trying not to do everything I could to fit in. I don't want to embarrass the family."
Meghan Markle's Holiday Collection And Christmas Décor Destroyed On Social Media
"She just can't be honest and admit that she likes beige. And there is nothing wrong with that. The only problem is, she should just admit that she lied about having to wear the color while in the U.K.," one person wrote on X, as a second exclaimed: "There she is, the woman finally free to wear bright colors!"
Many others roasted the color scheme itself, with a third writing: "Where are the Christmas colors? Where is the festiveness? Where's the 'Merry and bright?' This is bland, beige, boring browns. There is not one thing that says 'holiday cheer' in this clip. It's depressing, unseasoned manila envelope drabness."
"She loves those bland earthy colors of beige, browns, and baby poo green. Nothing ever looks festive, warm, or inviting," slammed a fourth, as a fifth concurred: "I think she's going high end and sleek, but it looks bland and boring."
"Meghan. The Christmas colors are red and green, and gold and silver sparkles… but definitely not ever [expletive] Brown," quipped a sixth. "Those stockings look like something my grandad would wear," joked a seventh.
"Markle has no taste. She gravitates toward dull colors and has no idea how to decorate a home," echoed an eighth, as a ninth simply said: "No class. No taste." "How ridiculous," slammed a tenth, as an eleventh simply branded the decorations "awful."
Other fans noted how sad it was that children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet wouldn't get to see bright, festive, traditional colors, with another X user saying: "This is decorating for an adults only home. Do with that what you will."
"Very odd decorations for a mother of young children… More appropriate for a bitter lonely single woman maybe?" commented another, as someone else said: "Omg of course she's a sad beige mom." "I hope she's not sharing her business Christmas with 'her kids.' I hope they get the colorful Christmas they deserve," another added.
