Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are under heavy criticism for their new Netflix series, Polo. Old acquaintances who used to play polo with Harry, 40, in his youth have expressed their disdain to the Daily Beast, finding the trailer for the couple’s new show laughable.
The outlet also reports that a Hollywood executive has warned that Harry and Markle, 43, are nearing their final opportunities to create engaging television content that isn’t self-centered and suggested that their future may instead be in social media influencing.

The trailer for Polo was released this week, but it has largely been overlooked or mocked by international media, suggesting that the couple’s former popularity is on the decline, according to sources. Though their titles as “executive producers“ are prominently displayed in the opening credits, neither Harry nor Markle appear in the trailer.
Instead, the three–minute preview showcases figures who are mostly unfamiliar outside the exclusive circle of the elite sport. At one point, seemingly aimed at capitalizing on the storyline of royal conflict, a young athlete mentions that he will compete against his father, expressing a desire to defeat him by saying, “I want to win against my dad.“

A past acquaintance of the Duke of Sussex, who shared the polo field with him during their teenage years, said to the publication: "It’s hilarious, but not in a good way. It’s so tacky and cringey, it is literally all the worst things about polo. I watched it in appalled hysterics."
Another insider linked to the Spare author dished: "The irony is that polo is actually a surprisingly inclusive sport these days. You do see plenty of rich kids but there are also plenty of kids from less rarefied backgrounds who just happen to be fantastic riders who are sponsored by the teams. It doesn’t look like this show is going to foreground that, which is a real missed opportunity."
Another senior Hollywood executive told The Daily Beast: "This looks like it has failed to capture the imagination. They still have Meghan’s cooking show to screen next year but there is very little tolerance for pissing money away these days. It’s debatable whether anyone cares about these two if they are not serving up outrageous stories about the royals."
The tipster went on: "They are running out of last chances to prove that isn’t so. If they can’t, they could try to monetize their fame on social media. Plenty of people would still give Harry a million bucks for a post." Polo makes its worldwide debut on Netflix on December 10th.
