Melania Trump recently released an official statement regarding the January 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol—and the internet has a lot of thoughts about it, particularly her signature.
On July 22, the former first lady took to social media to share that she was completely “unaware” of the Capitol riots. In her statement she wrote, “On January 6, 2021, I was fulfilling my duties one of my duties as First Lady of the United States of America, and accordingly, I was unaware of what was simultaneously transpiring at the U.S. Capitol Building.”
She continued, “As with all First Ladies who preceded me, it was my obligation to record the contents of the White House’s historic rooms, including taking archival photographs of all the renovations. Several months in advance, I organized a qualified team of photographers, archivists, and designers to work with me in the White House to ensure perfect execution. As required, we scheduled January 6, 2021 to complete the work on behalf of our Nation. This is a very significant undertaking and requires great care, attention to detail, and concentration—both in the planning and execution.”
Trump went on to talk about her former Chief of Staff, Stephanie Grisham, and mentioned in her statement, “I always condemn violence.” She added, “Had I been fully informed of all the details, naturally, I would have immediately denounced the violence that occurred in the Capitol Building.”

The statement was concluded with Trump’s signature, and how it looked definitely caught the attention of many. Several people have brought up that it appears to be very similar to the signature of her husband, former president Donald Trump.
As a matter of fact, director, writer, and political commentator Bob Cesca posted a zoomed-in photograph of the signature and tweeted, “I mean, what the hell?” One user replied to Cesca’s tweet and said, “Gee. It’s so weird how Donald Trump and his wife Melania have such a similar ‘spiky’ signature. Who could have [foreseen] that two human beings who ended up married would have identical handwriting…”

Another user went so far as to tag the Justice Department and asked, “Is forging someone’s signature legal? This isn’t Melania’s signature. It’s Donald’s. There’s no crime he won’t commit.”

According to The Latin Times, “A 2018 article in which Sheila Kurtz, a handwriting expert, remarked that the similarities between the two signatures were ‘amazing,’ was also cited by many Twitter users.” The outlet reports, “At the time, Kurtz said, ‘This is stylized.’ She noted of Melania’s sign-off on a letter to actress Pamela Anderson. The expert added that it is uncommon for spouse’s signatures to mimic each others’. She noted that maybe the couple brought ‘someone in to show her how to do it or (it’s) a stamp, but it is definitely stylized.'”
Additionally, The Latin Times mentioned, “Amateur handwriting analysts have been talking about the signatures for long. Back in November 2018, Daily Wire Senior Editor Ashe Short shared a photo of a White House greeting card. The journalist noted that Melania’s signature ‘looks a lot like Donald’s.'”
As of this writing, Melania Trump has neither responded nor reacted to the public scrutiny.
