When you’re a woman of a certain age and enter menopause, sometimes the symptoms can be so bad that you feel like you’re not in control of your own body.

It gets really frustrating when you’re constantly dealing with hot flashes, shifts in mood, inflammation, and more. However, while there are some things out of your control, there are some in your control, like your diet, and what you eat and drink to help your body get back on track. Love smoothies around this time of year? Well, you’re in luck, as Tamsen Fadal, an award-winning author and menopause advocate, shared her viral recipe for her “hot girl” menopause smoothie, packed with foods and ingredients that can “reduce” certain symptoms for women over 40. Tamsen Builds The Base Of Her 'Hot Girl Menopause Smoothie'

In a viral TikTok video, the menopause author uses a large blender and begins to pull out a variety of ingredients, adding a serving of each one to her smoothie. They're not you're usual smoothie ingredients, but as Tamsen wrote in her caption, "I've been tweaking the ingredients for years and this combo makes me feel healthy, energized, and reduces my symptoms."

First, she uses maca powder, which is derived from a root that is known to help improve your mood, energy, and balance your hormone levels. Then, she follows that with some cinnamon to "reduce inflammation" and add some flavor. The next ingredient is slightly more unconventional, but she adds a serving of liquid vitamin D supplement for bone health. If you're not crazy about taking vitamin supplements in pill form, this is a fun and nutritious way to get them in.

Finally, she adds a serving of greens powder, which doesn't necessarily stand in for the daily serving of vegetables you should eat, as you'd be missing out on their fiber. However, the powder does provide you with extra nutrients and minerals found in the greens for an extra boost.

Tamsen Adds Her Fruits And Milk Bases To Her Smoothie

Once she has her powders and vitamins together, it's time to focus on the more traditional aspects of a smoothie - the fruits and juices! In her smoothie, Tamsen adds a banana for potassium. Bananas are a great fruit to keep around, as the amount of potassium in them really can be effective, and you may find that your muscles feel a little more relaxed right after you eat one.

She also adds blueberries for "brain health," and uses a bag of organic frozen blueberries. That's always a nice option if blueberries are out of season, or if they have that tendency to go bad in your fridge quickly. Blueberries contain so many excellent antioxidants and compounds that can be beneficial for your brain and overall health.

Followed by the blueberries, she adds protein powder for "muscle tone," which is a popular choice in smoothie recipes, as it makes it much more of a filling option. For instance, if you want to have this smoothie for your breakfast, you should certainly add protein powder or a protein shake to balance it out.

Finally, for her milk base, Tamsen notes that she uses almond milk instead of dairy milk. Cow's milk can be known to increase inflammation in some people, and isn't as high in protein and healthy fats as almond milk. For optimum health, just be sure you're using a sugar-free almond milk that contains as few ingredients as possible. Finally, she blends it all up until she has a filling, purple-colored "hot girl menopause smoothie."

"You need to try this," wrote Tamsen, and many of her followers agreed. Would you give it a shot?
