"When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone," Cyrus shared. "I don't get off on drama or fighting." When questioned about whether alcohol influenced the end of their relationship, Cyrus, who has openly discussed her sobriety, confirmed it did not.
However, she acknowledged clinging to the relationship after their Malibu house was destroyed in a California wildfire, noting she "lost everything."
"Me being an intense person and not wanting to sit with it and not wanting to go, you know, 'What could be purposeful about this?' I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him," she said. "And I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will."
Cyrus and Hemsworth famously met in June 2009 on the set of The Last Song and began dating soon after.
They reportedly split (according to E!) for the first time in August 2010, got back together in September of that year, broke up again in November, and reunited once more in April of 2011.
In March of 2012, engagement rumors began swirling. Hemsworth officially confirmed to have proposed in June of that year, and in September of 2013, they called off their engagement.
The rollercoaster ride continued when the former couple confirmed they got back together and reignited their engagement (again!) in October of 2016, and they finally tied the knot in December 2018.
While looking back on her marriage in a TikTok video, Cyrus noted that the year of 2018 was difficult for the former spouses. Their house and belongings had been destroyed due to the devastating California wildfires, Cyrus said, and this happened only one month before their wedding. Hemsworth filed for divorce in August of 2019. Eventually, they both reached a legally binding settlement early on in 2020.
