You know what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And if you get your breakfast from a diner or a restaurant, it's the tastiest meal of the day. Though we can never turn down an invitation to grab breakfast or brunch with friends, it looks like we're going to have to turn down ordering eggs benedict the next time we dine out...

Eggs benedict is a classic American breakfast dish that calls for poached eggs and some sort of bacon or ham served on top of an English muffin. But, these ingredients aren't what make eggs benedict everyone's favorite food to order at brunch; it's the hollandaise sauce! And, unfortunately, it looks like this sauce is known to be a feeding ground for bacteria.
"Bacteria love hollandaise," celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain said, according to Daily Mail U.K. "And nobody I know has ever made hollandaise to order."
Gross! The chef also explained that hollandaise sauce needs to be kept at a certain temperature in order for it to be safe from bacteria. But, he says that brunch is typically when chefs get away with serving "leftover bits and pieces" from the week, so it's probably safe to say that your eggs benedict and hollandaise sauce probably won't be made with freshest ingredients either.
Wow, that's disgusting. We're sorry we had to be the ones to break this news to you... At least now you can make well-informed decisions the next time you head out to brunch with your friends!
