When you think about kickstarting your metabolism you probably think of doing so right when you wake up in the morning. However, there are some surprising benefits to taking a supplement at night to boost your metabolism. There's one specific supplement you should take at night, according to a nutritionist.

Nutritionist Derek Johnson says that Vitamin D should be your go-to supplement. Derek explains that a Vitamin D supplement is essential as the weather gets colder, since you're not soaking in the sun's rays. Vitamin D has been found the have metabolism boosting powers.

According to Dr. Alex Rinehart, overweight and obese people are more likely to be deficient in Vitamin D than those who have healthy body types. Alex further explains that in addition to boosting your metabolism, Vitamin D also supports bone health.

Now, why should you take your supplements at night and what are the specific benefits? Well, according to health expert Angela Pifer, Vitamin D supplements perform best when taken at night. Angela says, "For optimal absorption, the oral supplement 'Vitamin' D3 is best taken as a liquid emulsion with dinner."
