Opinions vary on when to take vitamins throughout the day, so there doesn't seem to a set right or wrong answer. Most people load up on their daily vitamins in the morning. But, different vitamins have different effects on your body, so it is important to be mindful of when you take them and which ones you're taking together. There's one specific vitamin, though, that's ideal to take at night, and can also help with weight loss.

Vitamin D, the supplement you get from soaking up the sun, can actually help you sleep. One study looked at vitamin D deficiency and sleep loss in hemodialysis patients. After observing the patients for a year, the researchers found that patients with low vitamin D levels epxerienced more sleep disturbances. For a good night's sleep, stock up on a healthy dose of vitamin D before bed. So, what does this vitamin have to do with weight loss?

According to Dr. Mike Roussell, overweight people have frequently been found to have low levels of vitamin D. Luisella Vigna of the University of Milan conducted a study on the link between vitamin D and obesity. Her research team observed groups of overweight and obese individuals with vitamin D deficiencies, giving them varying levels of vitamin D supplements while on a low-calorie diet. At the end of the trial, the team found that the participants who took the vitamin D supplements had smaller waist lines and lost more weight than the participants who didn't take any supplements.

The fact that this vitamin helps you sleep can also do wonders for your weight loss. Research from the National Sleep Foundation shows that obesity and sleep are connected. If you're not getting enough sleep, you don't have as much energy to exercise the next day, and lack of sleep can interfere with your metabolism.
