Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery? According to the way Swifties have reacted to Olivia Rodrigo wearing a slightly familiar dress, this fanbase doesn’t seem to think so. Online, Taylor Swift fans are calling Rodrigo out for wearing a red and white plaid dress at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London—because Swift has worn a dress with a similar pattern at a different sporting event.

Read on to learn more about the controversial outfit—and decide for yourself if the “Deja Vu” songstress is stealing Miss Swift’s style.

Olivia Rodrigo's Dress Rings A Bell

Last Wednesday, Olivia Rodrigo attended the Wimbledon Tennis Championships with her boyfriend Louis Partridge. The pop sensation donned a vintage red and white plaid Louis Vuitton dress with buttons down the front and a preppy collar. She completed the look with the chicest pair of tiny sunglasses. If you ask us, this is a pretty classically "Olivia Rodrigo" outfit. But some music fans were reminded of another pop princess.

In one post on X, a user put a photo of Rodrigo at Wimbledon beside a similar picture of Taylor Swift from last September at the US Open men's final in New York City. "Yes copy my homework but don't make it too obvious," they joked in the since-deleted post.

Let's look at the evidence: There is a similarity to the outfits. Swift, 35, is wearing a red and white plaid dress. But there are also some major differences. Rodrigo's dress has short sleeves and is buttoned to the top of the collar, while Swift's features spaghetti straps, a sweetheart neckline, and no buttons in sight.

But the fans are still calling out "copycat."

"The red and white plaid dress… similar sunglasses… both attending a tennis match… you can't make this up," the original X-poster wrote.

"It's just getting beyond creepy now," another user replied, with someone else echoing, "This is a little creepy."

However, many fans were quick to jump to Rodrigo's defense: "Olivia had worn [a similar] dress as Taylor months before, so following this user's logic, that would actually make Taylor the copycat in this situation," reads one post.

Others jumped in with photographic evidence.

You can't make that up!

One Rodrigo fan even went as far as to say that "Olivia did it first and better." And this isn't the first time Swift has been accused of copying her younger counterpart, or vice versal—fans have even pointed out similarities in their music.

Fan Feud: Why Do Swifties & Livies Fight?

The girls are fighting—and we're going to watch this one from the sidelines. But how did this fan feud start in the first place?

The tension between Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift fans goes back a few years—starting with the release of Rodrigo's hit song "Deja Vu," after which Swift, Jack Antonoff, and St. Vincent were retroactively added as co-writers due to similarities to Swift's "Cruel Summer."

While Rodrigo has always been vocal about her admiration of Swift, some fans believed the breakout star was copying—not just inspired by—her idol on this track.

Rodrigo has expressed disappointment over the songwriting credit drama in interviews, saying she was "surprised" and felt it was "frustrating."

Swift, on the other hand, has never publicly commented on the situation, which fueled fan speculation. Although the two stars once had a public friendship (Rodrigo was even dubbed as a "Taydaughter"), their relationship went silent after the release of Rodrigo's debut album, Sour, and rumors swirled about Taylor being iced out from Olivia’s inner circle or vice versa.

Some people even believe that Rodrigo wrote "Vampire" about Swift, although she has denied those rumors.

Flash forward to this week, and fans are still picking fights with each other. From our perspective, both artists are clearly influenced by similar style and sounds—and this fan feud can be put to rest.
