There were a lot of comments from both movie buffs and political enthusiasts flying around this weekend, after Pete Hegseth made a mistake that might haunt him for the rest of his time in the Trump administration.
Last Wednesday, the United States Secretary of War made an appearance at a Pentagon ceremony, where, at one point, he wanted to read from the Bible, leading attendees in a prayer and including it as part of his speech during a prayer service. However, he chose an unconventional 'passage,' which actually ended up being a mistake.
Though he introduced the verse as something Sandy-1 read during a real-time Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) mission, "reflecting Ezekiel 25:17," the former FOX personality then quoted an entire passage that was written and recited by Samuel L. Jackson's famous hitman character in Tarantino's Pulp Fiction.
"The path of the downed aviator is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men," he began, quoting the monologue Jackson's character gives before killing men in a famous scene."Blessed is he who, in the name of camaraderie and duty, shepherds the lost through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother. Users Slam Pete's Mistake & Call Him 'Humiliating' On Social Media
It didn't take long for people to take the clip of the 45-year-old's faux Bible "reading" and spread it on social media platforms like wildfire.
Since he was given the title of the new Secretary of War, numerous Americans and others around the world have caused an uproar, sharing messages about how he's underqualified and not fit for the job, given his background as a television personality. Not long into the job, he caused a scandal when he shared top-secret defense information in a casual group chat, whose messages were later leaked.
Now, it looks like people are calling him underqualified when it comes to leading prayer services as well, given that he recited a film monologue versus an actual Bible verse.
On all social media platforms, users threw jabs at Hegseth in comments and posts, from other political figures like Gavin Newsom, who shared an image of his face replacing Uma Thurman on the Pulp Fiction poster, to everyday users.
"This administration is so humiliating," commented an Instagram user.
"Please tell me this is an SNL skit," added another.
