A Plastic Surgeon Weighs In On Selena Gomez's Changing Face
One of today's biggest celebrities is the singer and actress, who first gained major popularity when she was a star on the Disney Channel in shows like Wizards of Waverly Place. Since then, she's made a name for herself as a successful pop singer and revived her acting career, starring in Emmy and Oscar-nominated productions.
Given that she entered pop culture as a young teenager and is now in her early 30s, it's no secret that Selena's appearance would change. This is especially true, given her health condition. She was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease, in 2013, and due to the severity of her symptoms, had to get a kidney transplant in 2017. Still, some internet users believe her face has changed beyond aging and her health condition, as in her new wedding photos and more snaps, they've noticed that some of her features look different than before.
Now, plastic surgeons are beginning to weigh in on the matter, as although Selena has opened up about her experience with lupus, she's more tight-lipped regarding any cosmetic procedures.
"Her earlier nasal architecture featured more widely splayed nasal bones and a softly broad mid-vault - features that gave her face a naturally open, balanced quality," plastic surgeon Dr. Rian Maercks told The Daily Mail. "Her light reflex points - the highlights that dance off the nasal tip - are now more centralized and cohesive, which reflects precise sculptural refinement."
A Plastic Surgeon Believes Selena Had A Rhinoplasty
Although the "Who Says" singer's face hasn't changed a ton, leaving her looking like an entirely different person, many fans and even medical professionals have noticed that "subtle" changes have made a big difference in her appearance.
If Selena did have cosmetic work done, Dr. Maercks is fairly convinced it was a "well-executed rhinoplasty," which is commonly known as a nose job.
When making his assessment for The Daily Mail, the plastic surgeon analyzed recent pictures of the Monte Carlo actress and noticed "a faint linear shadow appears along her mid-vault," a potential side effect and indicator of a rhinoplasty.
"It likely indicates a separation in the cartilage-bone junction, which can disrupt smooth light transition along the bridge," he explained. "While subtle, it's a recognizable postoperative feature and can be corrected through a minor revision or even a precise filler restoration to re-establish surface continuity."
In order to be certain of the situation, Selena would have to confirm she's had the procedure in a statement. But for now, as she continues to thrive in her post-wedding era, fans and other aesthetic professionals continue to speculate.
