Sunscreen is the most important step in every skincare routine. Applying a physical face sunscreen after your moisturizer is the most effective way to block UV rays and protect the skin from free radical damage, but dermatologists say that you can benefit from using a product that contains SPF. Most women prefer to get their daily sunscreen from a foundation with SPF to simplify their makeup routine, but Dr. Howard D. Sobel, a New York dermatologist, stresses that it should never be the only SPF that you put on. “Makeup with an SPF can protect against UVB rays, but it does not always protect against UVA rays, which cause premature aging and potentially lead to skin cancer,” he explains.

Looking for a new foundation that offers SPF protection? Sephora shoppers are obsessed with BareMinerals’ Original Loose Powder Mineral Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15, a powder foundation with SPF that uses mineral ingredients to create a flawless, ageless complexion.

How To Apply Powder Foundation

Your powder foundation with SPF will only deliver the results you want if you're applying it correctly. Here's how makeup artists recommend applying powder foundation:

Start With A Primer

Most people shy away from powder foundations because of their tendency to accentuate dry patches and fine lines. Nick Lujan, Make Up For Ever pro educator, says that you can avoid that by hydrating the skin. "Lock in your hydration or moisture with a serum. Apply a couple drops to your fingertips, then lightly dab over the skin," he says. "Give all your skin-prep products a few minutes to do their jobs before applying makeup. Let the skin plump and the primer smooth."

Build Your Coverage

Lujan recommends starting slow with your foundation and gradually building it as you go. This will "help to balance tone and even out mild concerns for a soft, filtered look," he says.

Don't Apply It Everywhere

“Just like with liquids, first start by applying your foundation in the areas that need the most coverage," Lujan explains. "Then, stretch the product outward and down to smooth texture and create a seamless blend into the skin of the neck."

Use A Buffing Brush

Lujan opts for a Kabuki-style buffing brush when applying powder foundation to speed things up. "Load your brush with powder foundation," he explains. "Dot foundation where you need the most coverage first, then quickly buff in circular motions outward and down with a light pressure."

Finish With A Setting Spray

You want your foundation to stay in place, right? That's where setting spray comes into play. Hold it about 10 inches away from your face and spray the product in a circular motion to ensure that your every part of your face is covered. Then, gently press into the complexion with the palms of your hands to smooth your skin's texture.
