Trader Joe's Voluntarily Recalls Their Sesame Miso Salmon Salad For Undeclared Milk Allergen
On Monday, April 28th, the Food and Drug Administration issued an official statement that the famous grocery store brand Trader Joe's "voluntarily" issued a recall for numerous packages of their Seasame Miso Salmon Salad. Being a popular destination for healthy foods, the pre-packaged salads are typically a hit amongst customers and those who need a meal on the go. However, a mistake made with the salmon salad was extremely dangerous for those with dairy allergies.
According to the statement, a limited quantity of the salad, which is supposed to contain a vegetable blend, grilled salmon, crispy onion pieces, and a miso sesame dressing, was sent to several states with mistaken packaging, as the crispy onion topping had been accidentally replaced with packets of parmesan cheese crumbles. Subsequently, the ones that were packed with cheese did not have any kind of milk allergen warning.
While the packets of parmesan cheese were sealed, the F.D.A noted that "people who have sensitivity or allergy to milk may be at risk of an adverse reaction if they consume this product." The compromised salads were sent out to a whopping 18 states, so if yours is on the list and you bought one of these salads, you may want to ensure it has the correct ingredients in it.

The states affected by the recall include Alabama, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. The Food and Drug Administration advised Trader Joe's customers who may have purchased the salad between April 28th and 29th to throw the salad away if they or anyone in their home has a dairy allergy.
Despite approximately 500 units of the salad being mistakingly packaged, the F.D.A stated it hadn't received any adverse reaction reports. This is not the first time a product has been recalled from the grocery store chain this year, as according to their website, they've had to issue several recall notices for things like foreign objects in acai bowls, defective packaging in their tuna cans, and more.
Still, the setbacks haven't seemingly affected Trader Joe's popularity, as customers continue to shop there and rave about their more successful products. This recent recall, however, is a good reminder to always double-check the ingredients and ensure everything looks accurate before consuming pre-packaged food.
