Joining the likes of Costco and Walmart, McDonald’s is making some major moves in 2026—and luckily for us, they’re all about one thing: improving the customer experience.

While major changes to your favorite franchise can sometimes be difficult to accept, we reckon most McDonald’s lovers will be happy about the shifts coming to the golden arches next year. From the return of actual value pricing to AI-powered upgrades designed to get your order right every time, here are the biggest changes you can expect at McDonald’s in 2026.

1. New Franchise Rules Designed to Deliver Better Value

Beginning January 1, 2026, McDonald’s will roll out updated franchising standards focused on reinforcing value across all restaurants, CNBC reports. Rather than forcing the same prices everywhere, the company plans to evaluate how well each location delivers value overall—including pricing, consistency, and the full customer experience. Franchise owners will also be encouraged to share local market insights, which will allow pricing and promotions to suit regional needs while still aligning with corporate standards. Wins all around!

2. Value Meal Deals Return

If you’ve been missing affordable combo meals, you're not alone. And you’re in luck! Next year, McDonald's is reintroducing value meal deals, including options like a $5 breakfast combo featuring a Sausage McMuffin with Egg and an $8 Big Mac meal with medium fries and a drink. The goal is to make ordering simpler—and more affordable—at a time when fast food prices have been creeping up. (Hello, shrinkflation!)

3. "Buy One, Add One for $1" Offers

McDonald’s is also bringing back flexible promotions that let customers customize their orders while saving money. The "Buy One, Add One for $1" deal allows you to purchase a qualifying menu item and add another for just a dollar, making it easier to mix and match favorites without committing to a full-priced second item.

4. The Big Arch Burger

Burger lovers can expect a bigger option on the menu with the Big Arch Burger. This oversized sandwich features two Quarter Pounder patties, three slices of cheese, lettuce, pickles, onions, and a bold, tangy sauce on a poppy-and-sesame seed bun. It’s designed as a more indulgent alternative to the Big Mac and has already been popular in international markets.

5. AI Technology Can Fix Order Mistakes

Get extra pickles when you ask for extra pickles—what a miracle! One of the most noticeable upgrades in 2026 will happen behind the counter. McDonald’s is introducing AI-driven technology that uses cameras and computer vision to check orders before they’re handed to customers. If something’s wrong—like only half the pickles you asked for—the system can flag the mistake and prompt staff to fix it before the food ever reaches you.

6. AI Could Finally Help Prevent Broken Machines

Maybe we'll actually be able to enjoy McFlurries in 2026... The same AI technology may help reduce equipment breakdowns. McDonald’s suppliers are installing sensors on kitchen machines to monitor how they’re operating in real time. By spotting early warning signs of mechanical issues, restaurants can address problems sooner—potentially leading to fewer out-of-order McFlurry machines and smoother service overall.
