July 8th was a special day for the royal family: it marked the first official French state visit in 17 years, meaning special guest Emmanuel Macron, the French President, was front and center. He got the best seat in the house—seated between Kate Middleton and King Charles—and wasn’t afraid to show off some of that classic French charm by giving the Princess of Wales and cheeky wink! Keep reading for more information.

Macron Winks At Kate Middleton

Ever the gentleman, Macron helped to pull out Kate Middleton's chair and waited for her to be seated before sitting down himself. During a toast, cameras zeroed in on Macron, who was spotted winking at Princess Kate.

This wasn't the first time the President was a little flirty with the Princess. When he and his wife, Brigette Macron, landed in England on Tuesday, Prince William and Kate Middleton were on the tarmac waiting to greet them, and Macron met Kate with a kiss on her hand.

Though neither of these gestures are officially against royal protocol, fans certainly had some thoughts about the French president's behavior, especially with his wife present.

Social Media Reactions

Back in May of this year, Brigette, 72, was videoed playfully slapping Emmanuel, 47, as they disembarked from their plane. Though they later confirmed they were just joking around, it made fans see her as someone a bit possessive of her husband. "Brigette is gonna smack him again for that one!" one person wrote on Instagram.

"Can you blame him?" one person joked. "C'mon!"

"The French being French lol," a third person commented.

"If I saw Kate, I'd do the same exact thing!" another person wrote.

"He should get ready for another slap on his face," one user posted. "His wife is watching!"

"Classic womanizer," a final comment reads.
