This week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their controversial trip to Australia, which the internet has been anticipating for quite some time. Despite residents creating a petition asking that the couple not use any taxpayer money for security or other reasons during their "private trip," and a wave of people discouraging them from going at all, they not only went but also made various appearances.
To close out their trip, Harry and Meghan attended a private charity event, the InterEdge Summit in Melbourne. The prince was a keynote speaker for the evening and made a long, vulnerable speech about his mental health and grief, particularly reflecting on the chapter of his life after his famous mother, Princess Diana, was tragically killed in a car accident just before he turned 13 in 1997. He mentioned how the incident made him want to detach himself from his royal lifestyle and duties at a young age.
"I was like, 'I don't want this job. I don't want this role - wherever this is headed, I don't like it,'" Harry said, as reported by People. "It killed my mum, and I was very much against it, and I stuck my head in the sand for years and years. Eventually, I realized, well, hang on, if there was somebody else in this position, how would they be making the most of this platform and this ability and the resources that come with it to make a difference in the world?"

Since they left the UK for a home in California, the couple has consistently been criticized for claiming they want to separate themselves from royal life whilst continuing to speak about it during events, use their Sussex titles, and more.
Therefore, when Harry spoke adamantly about how much he didn't want his royal lifestyle after his mom died, it struck a lot of social media users the wrong way, and they ended up slamming him on platforms like Instagram.
