Prince William and Kate Middleton are currently on tour in the U.S. for the first time in eight years – but they reportedly made no plans to visit Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, despite them being only 200 miles away from each other at one point!

The Prince And Princess Of Wales Made ‘No Plans’ To Visit The Sussexes

Although the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 40, were mainly going to be in Boston, Massachusetts for the second annual Earthshot Prize Awards on December 2nd, which is admittedly a very long way from California where Harry and Meghan now live, the brothers and sisters-in-law would have been just 200 miles away a few days later, which would have been the perfect opportunity to meet!

However, a source told Entertainment Tonight that “no plans” were made to meet up, despite Meghan, 41, allegedly hoping that the Princess of Wales would make an appearance on her Archetypes podcast while she was in the country. According to The Telegraph, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ team is “highly cognizant” of Meghan and Harry, 38, and they are “not scared of their shadows on this.”

Royal Expert Discusses The Ongoing Rift Between The Brothers

Royal experts aren’t at all surprised to learn that the Waleses and the Sussexes made no plans to see each other as the release of Prince Harry's bombshell memoir is just over a month away, and the Netflix docuseries now just days away from premiering! Royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight back in October that the brothers' rift has only deepened, which makes a reunion in the U.S. – or at all! – seem more unlikely than ever.

"Everyone wants to see a repair in the rift because it doesn't do anyone any good to have this rift in the heart of the House of Windsor," Nicholl said. "William simply cannot forgive Harry. Not just for leaving, but for how he left." Nicholl also echoed this on Dan Wooton Tonight, saying: "William simply can’t forgive Harry, not just for his behavior and what he’s done and how he’s done it, but look at how much now rests on William. He always thought Harry would be his wingman. Now he’s doing it on his own. Thank goodness he’s got Kate by his side."

The Earthshot Prize Awards

The Prince and Princess of Wales attended the second annual Earthshot Prize Awards at the MGM Music Hall on Thursday, December 2nd, which aimed to raise awareness for the innovative work that’s being done to protect the environment. A source told People that William and Kate are "excited to be able to bring that to the United States and inspire people stateside and around the world through the incredible stories [they] are going to tell."

Earthshot Prize Award winners in the five separate categories of nature protection, clean air, ocean revival, waste elimination and climate change receive $1.2M in prize money, which will go towards helping them expand their projects.

The Ripple of Hope Awards

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be in New York for the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Awards on December 6th, where they are being honored for their "work on racial justice, mental health, and other social impact initiatives."

Royal expert Jennie Bond told GB News that accepting the award would no doubt deepen the rift between the Sussexes and the royal family even further. "It's put the Sussexes in a rather difficult position, I think," she said on Breakfast with Martin Daubney and Isabel Webster. "Do they say no, we don't want to even acknowledge that you're offering this award? Do we go and accept it in person? Perhaps the middle way of just accepting it, but not turning up, is something." Bond added: "I think if they do go along and accept this award on a public stage, yeah, it's going to make things even worse, the rift could be even deeper."

Both Couples Meet The Kennedys

Speaking of the Kennedys, another interesting fact is that both couples had plans to meet with members of the Kennedy family within the space of a few days. JFK’s daughter Caroline Kennedy arranged to meet the Prince and Princess of Wales in Boston, while JFK’s niece Kerry Kennedy, who runs the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Organization in memory of her late father, Bobby Kennedy, will be meeting with the Sussexes, who she said she really admires.

"They went to the oldest institution in U.K. history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn't have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health," she revealed. "They knew that if they did this there would be consequences, that they would be ostracized, they would lose their family, their position within this structure, and that people would blame them for it. They have done it anyway because they believed they couldn't live with themselves if they didn't question this authority. I think they have been heroic in taking this step."

Piers Morgan, if you'll recall, was less than thrilled that the Sussexes were receiving the award, and called it "absolutely disgusting" on Monday, November 21st’s episode of Fox & Friends. "Shame on Kerry Kennedy, frankly, for besmirching the name and memory of her father in this way," he said at the time. "The idea that these two little grifters, who quit royal duty, quit Britain… exploited and fleeced their royal titles for hundreds of millions of dollars straight in their back pocket… the idea that they’re being lauded as some kind of heroes in America by your own sort of royal family, if you like, the Kennedys, it really sticks in my gullet."
