This story has been updated since it was originally published in December to include more details on the expanded recall

Quaker just expanded their recall of over 80 varieties of granola bars and granola cereal products due to a potential salmonella contamination. The FDA made the announcement last Friday, and said that the contaminated products were sold throughout all 50 United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Saipan in stores like Costco, Walmart, and Target.

As of now, the Quaker Oats Company has not received any confirmed reports of illness related to the recalled items. Keep reading for more information.

Salmonella Symptoms

Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, and in rare cases, according to the FDA, "Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis." Salmonella can cause fatal infections in children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Be sure to check your pantry for any Quaker items that may be contaminated with Salmonella in order to keep your family safe.
