This Huge Secret About Ryan Reynolds’ Career Just Got Out—Fans Are Shocked!

Ryan Reynolds just announced that he will be taking a break from acting – and fans are freaking out! The 45-year-old Deadpool star took to Instagram on October 16th to reveal that he will be taking a “little sabbatical from movie making” now that filming for the new Apple TV+ film Spirited has finally wrapped.

FYI, Spirited is a musical retelling of the popular 1843 Charles Dickens novel, A Christmas Carol. It is written and directed by Sean Anders and John Morris, and executively produced by Reynolds himself. It doesn’t have a release date yet, but we already want to add it to our list of traditional Christmas movies alongside Elf and Miracle on 34th Street, as well as the many other versions of A Christmas Carol. Another musical version of one of our favorite Christmas stories with Reynolds, Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer? What could be better?!

“That’s a wrap for me on Spirited. Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago,” the Green Lantern star wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of himself with Ferrell, as well as several other behind-the-scenes images of him and the Spirited crew. “Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great Octavia Spencer.”

“Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists,” the actor and producer continued. “These days, kindness matters as much as talent. I’ve been lucky to work with folks who are flush with both.”

Although we will definitely miss Reynolds on the silver screen, we can’t say we are surprised that he wants to take some time out, as he has been exceptionally busy lately. As well as watching him in the recent Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and Free Guy, fans can also look forward to seeing him on Red Notice alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot when it lands on Netflix on November 12th.

As expected, Twitter was quick to react to the news of Reynolds' sabbatical – and it was a real mix of emotions. "He makes so much money with a diverse portfolio with endeavors outside of entertainment he rightfully should take a break," a supportive fan wrote on the social media platform. "Take your time man don’t burn yourself out and spend time enjoying all you have built," another echoed. Other fans were quite concerned about when he will return to the silver screen, with one Twitter user writing: "But he still needs to make a deadpool 3 and free guy 2. How long is his break going to be? A couple months? I think most actors just take those without saying anything, with a backlog of upcoming products to make it so we don’t even notice."

Another Twitter user went in a totally different direction, and said, "well he does have a soccer club to run," in reference to his acquisition of English non-league soccer team Wrexham FC along with fellow actor Rob McElhenney – random, we know! As well as running the aforementioned soccer club from the other side of the world, we predict that Reynolds will also be spending a lot of time with his family – 34-year-old wife, Blake Lively, and their three daughters, James, 6, Inez, 4, and Betty, 1. Enjoy your time off, Ryan – but please don't stay away for too long!
