The Today show host, Savannah Guthrie will be back to work soon. The news anchor successfully underwent cataract eye surgery that was delayed due to do the COVID-19 pandemic.

Guthrie became co-anchor of Today, replacing Ann Curry in 2012. She initially underwent retinal detachment surgery in December of 2019 after her three-year-old son accidentally jabbed her in the right eye with a toy. She had complications after the initial surgery and had expected to receive cataract surgery back in July. Like all non-emergency medical procedures during this pandemic, it was pushed back until recently.
The surgery aimed to help repair a blurry spot that has persisted since her last surgery. In an interview on the Ellen show earlier this summer, the anchor told DeGeneres, "A lot of people get complications, and I did, too, so I have to have cataract surgery, but I can't have it until all this has passed."
Guthrie’s day finally came and she was able to get her long-awaited surgery. It was a success and she shared her happiness with her surgery on Twitter, "I’m so grateful my surgery was a success! I’m still healing but already noticing a major improvement in my vision.”
Guthrie is due to resume her duties as co-host this week. She told fans on Twitter, "See you later this week on TODAY! And when I say 'see you' - I really mean it."
