It’s no secret that fast food is unhealthy, but what might come as a surprise is just how harmful one of the most popular fast food orders actually is. Chicken nuggets might be a delicious snack, but they are definitely not worth the harm they can cause.
Just about every fast food restaurant has a version of chicken nuggets on their menu - and whether you’re ordering them from McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Chick-Fil-A or somewhere else, they’re all extremely high in trans fats, sodium and carbs.
We all know that breaded chicken is less healthy than a slice of lean, grilled chicken, since it has extra carbs from the breading and fats from the way it is cooked. And while this difference might not be too drastic when cooking at home, the chicken nuggets you get from a fast food restaurant have a lot more unhealthy ingredients.
Most fast food restaurants make their chicken nuggets using processed meats and end up having more calories from fat than from the chicken itself. This fat comes from added ingredients like hydrogenated oils.
Next time you’re craving chicken nuggets, make them yourself at home. There are many recipes for much healthier versions of the popular snack, plus you can have full control over what types of ingredients you use.
