Getting your phone back on track after you’ve noticed it lagging has never been easier to do. There are a number of reasons why your phone is being a slowpoke, from some of the apps you continue keeping on the home screen (even though you rarely use them) to storage issues and even iOS updates that make your phone work harder.
According to a former Apple employee, these storage clearing tips are simple to put into effect and can really help your device get a move on it:

Here are some of the smartest tips to get your phone up to speed.
1. Delete Old Apps
Old apps aren’t adding value to your phone if you aren’t using them and finding them helpful or effective. But what they are doing is contributing to your storage issues — and the more storage they consume, the slower your phone can act. Delete these apps and don’t look back. There’s a slim chance you’ll miss them (and you can also add them back if you do).
2. See What’s Sapping Up Storage Space
Every iPhone user will be different — what’s taking up your storage space isn’t the same for someone else, and vice vera. To truly get to the root cause of your storage space problems, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. A bar graph will show you the amount of storage that has been taken up and the categories that consume the most. From there, you’ll have a more informed idea of which apps and settings to change to gain back storage space.

3. Delete Duplicate Photos
Duplicate photos in your iPhone app will only sap up space and slow down your phone — and you may not even be aware that your phone is collecting these. Delete duplicates by going to Photos > Albums > Utilities > tap Duplicates > tap Merge next to duplicates you’d like to combine or tap Select > choose multiple photos > hit Merge.
4. Consider Replacing Your Battery
If your phone is older and has trouble maintaining a charge for a long period of time (like several hours), the problem could be that your battery needs to be replaced. Consider swapping an old batter for a new one to see if that helps speed up your device.
