Shania Twain Admits To Doing 'Very Unhealthy' Things To Her Body After Entering Menopause

The country star's name is in headlines more than ever right now, as she's making waves while opening for Grammy-winner Harry Styles on his trending and highly anticipated 'Together, Together' tour.

Right now, she's putting on numerous performances as the sole opener of his 12 shows at Wembley Stadium for the London leg of the tour. Due to her new career surge later in life, Shania's been reflecting on her career. In an interview with the Sunday Times, she looked into not only how her music has evolved, but also her health and body, eventually opening up about how she experienced a dark period after entering menopause.

"In menopause, you lose control of your body," she told the news outlet. "So all of a sudden I'm bloating, and I'm definitely not in control. I can't just lose five pounds. I hated my body. I'm, like, 'Oh, I cannot stand this changing body,'" she recalled. "But that was so unhealthy. Who cannot look at themselves in the mirror?"

Then, the "Man, I Feel Like A Woman" singer noted that when it was time to perform her Las Vegas residency in 2019, she began taking drastic measures to try to look like a younger version of herself again.

"I was doing very unhealthy things," she recalled. "And I was working my body more than I was feeding it, to keep up with the strain."

Shania Says Menopause Has Been 'Good For Her' As Fans Say She Looks 'Unrecognizable' On Social Media

Towards the end of her vulnerable interview with the news outlet, the 60-year-old explained that she's entered a better place with her health and body image. She explained that a lot of it had to do with educating herself on menopause, adjusting her diet and lifestyle, and accepting that she didn't have much control over the changes that took place.

"Now I'm, like, bring on the mirrors, I'm going to look at myself all day long!" she added, previously noting that she used to avoid mirrors. "Menopause has been very good for me because I've learned that some things you cannot control."

The interview didn't come out long after pictures of the mom-of-one on stage opening for Harry Styles went viral on social media, where users were convinced that she had begun getting more cosmetic procedures or treatments, commenting that she looked "unrecognizable." Now, fans are encouraging her to keep taking care of herself and are sending support.

"Give her some grace," commented a fan on Facebook. "Unless you're post-menopausal, you don't understand how hard it is."

"Just age gracefully," encouraged another.

"Must be such a sobering realization to have achieved it all yet still be unhappy," wrote a Reddit user. "We can't outrun ourselves or buy a new brain. It's so sad."
