Sharon Osbourne has just given an update on husband Ozzy Osbourne’s battle with Parkinson’s disease, which he was privately diagnosed with back in 2003 but only went public with in 2020.

Sharon on Paxman: Putting Up With Parkinson’s

Speaking to Jeremy Paxman in the ITV documentary Paxman: Putting Up With Parkinson’s, which the British broadcaster made following his own diagnosis with the disease 18 months ago, the 70-year-old former X Factor judge opened up about how her “heart breaks” for her husband when she sees what he has had to give up as a result of the condition.

“I just think of my husband, and like you, who was very energetic, loved to go out for walks, did a two-hour show on stage every night, running around like a crazy man. Suddenly, your life just stops—life as you knew it,” an emotional Sharon revealed.

“My heart breaks for him”

“When I look at my husband, my heart breaks for him,” she continued. “I’m sad for myself to see him that way, but what he goes through is worse. When I look at him and he doesn’t know, I’m, like, crying.”

The former The Talk co-host didn’t just talk about the bad sides of the disease, and went on to discuss some positives too, as well as some of the things that have helped him manage the condition. "The positive thing is we spend much more time together as a family and I love my husband more than I do three years ago," she confessed, before going on to credit the use of CBD, a chemical substance found in cannabis that has medical benefits but doesn’t cause a 'high' because it does not contain THC (tetrahydrocannabinol.)

"Ozzy was always on something, he always loved to dabble with the old drugs," she continued. "But now he takes this stuff at night. What's this stuff that everybody smokes? Marijuana. It is something from that—Cannabidiol. I'll bring some over for you, you'll love it. I'll bring it back for you, Jeremy. I'll probably get arrested coming through customs, but that's nothing new."

What Ozzy and Sharon said in 2020

The 73-year-old Black Sabbath rocker first went public with his diagnosis during an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, saying: "It’s been terribly challenging for us all. Coming from a working-class background, I hate to let people down. I hate to not do my job. And so when I see my wife going to work, my kids going to work, everybody’s doing—trying’ to be helpful to me, that gets me down because I can’t contribute to my family, you know."

"Not a death sentence"

But Sharon defended her husband, and said: "He’s gonna get back out there. And he’s gonna do what he loves to do. I know it." She also went on to explain that "there's so many different types of Parkinson's." "It's not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination," she added, "but it does affect certain nerves in your body. And it's like you have a good day, and then a really bad day."
