Anyone who’s ever tried to lose weight around their midsection knows just how hard of a task it is. Most people store extra fat in their bodies around their stomach and this problem only becomes more prominent as they get older. Because it’s impossible to target weight loss to a specific area, the best thing you can do to lose belly fat is eat a diet full of healthy foods and exercise regularly to lower your overall BMI.

Diet is the most important factors in weight loss. You know how the sayings go: Abs are made in the kitchen; You can’t out exercise a bad diet. And they’re all true!

If your current meal plan doesn’t already include quinoa you might want to consider adding this super-food into your diet. According to New York-based nutritionist Regina Fazzini, this protein-packed, “good” carb is known to aid weight loss.

“Quinoa is high in protein and is one of the few foods that has all nine essential amino acids," Fazzini tells Shefinds. “It's also loaded with healthy antioxidants, nutrients, and minerals that help keep you healthy. Plus, it's high in fiber, which means it will help you stay fuller longer and help eliminate any unhealthy cravings later."

If you’ve never had this healthy dish before, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear how easy it is to prepare. Fazzini recommends eating quinoa as an alternative to pasta. You can also incorporate it into your diet as a side with vegetables and other proteins to make a well-rounded plate.

"Add a serving where you were originally adding pasta or another unhealthy carb," recommends Fazzini. "It's better for you and if you season it properly, you won't be able to tell the difference. I also love adding it to my salads.”
