Running Out Of Storage? 4 Pre-Installed iPhone Apps You Don’t Need

Storage space can be a hard thing to come by on your iPhone. The apps that we download and actually use, and sometimes use often, can consume incredible amounts of storage space. If you think about social media apps alone and all of the resources they take up—including the number of videos they process and updates they provide—it’s easy to see why you keep running low on storage. Add to this list all of the photos and videos you take and store and it’s a small wonder you have any storage left over at all.

If you find you are running out of storage and you don’t want to delete apps you love, and your Photos app is daunting enough as it is, one step you can take is deleting pre-installed apps that you don’t use. These apps won’t save you the amount of storage space you’d save from deleting something like Facebook, but when every bit of storage counts, deleting these four pre-installed apps on your iPhone can help.

1. Apple News

Apple News is a great source if you like your news to be aggregated and aren’t particular about which news sources it pulls from. But what might have seemed like a convenient luxury years ago doesn’t hold up now, when so many people are getting their news from specific sources or even alternative sources like podcasts. If you don’t have any use for it, you can delete Apple News.

2. Compass

Compass is a cool feature — the first one or two times you use it. The app will show you the direction you’re facing, your GPS coordinates, and even the elevation of where you are standing. But you’re unlikely to use this feature for anything more than novelty purposes — it’s a good one to delete.

3. Stocks

If you own stocks, there’s a good chance you follow their progression via a dedicated financial management app. Apple Stocks isn’t necessary if you already have a source that you trust for this information, and it often feels like an outdated app.

4. Tips

We don’t want to knock Apple’s Tips app because some of its suggestions are helpful. But, the thing is, after you’ve used the app a few times and have learned a few tricks and tips, it’s rare that you’ll revert back to it later on. If you can’t remember the last time you opened Tips, it’s safe to say you can delete it without regret.
