As we age, our bodies naturally undergo changes that can affect everything from energy levels and cognitive function to joint health and immunity. While a balanced diet and active lifestyle are key, certain supplements may offer extra support to promote healthier aging. According to health experts, these five supplements could help you stay sharper, stronger, and more resilient as the years go by.

1. NMN

Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is a powerful anti-aging supplement because it helps boost levels of NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) in the body. NAD+ is a crucial molecule that supports cellular energy production, DNA repair, and mitochondrial function, all of which decline as we age.

Dr. Robert Love, a neuroscientist, says, “NMN is a precursor to NAD. NAD is an energy source used throughout your body. NAD also helps repair DNA or fuels the repair of DNA. So, by taking NMN, this helps fuel the repair of DNA, and that can slow down and even reverse aging or symptoms of aging.”

He suggests looking for ones that are third-party tested.

2. CoQ10

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a powerful antioxidant that plays a key role in energy production and cellular health, making it an essential anti-aging supplement. As we age, our natural CoQ10 levels decline, which can lead to fatigue, weakened heart function, and increased oxidative stress—all of which contribute to aging.

“The research on CoQ10 shows you need about a thousand milligrams a day to really get the anti-aging benefits for your brain. It helps with Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease, [according to] double-blind, placebo-controlled studies," he notes.

"You need to basically do 5 to 10 times what’s on the bottle,” adding that before you make any decision, it’s important to check with your medical doctor first. According to research, he says 1000 to 3000 milligrams is “very powerful for reversing aging in the brain and improving mitochondrial health throughout your body.”

3. Collagen peptides

Collagen is the primary protein responsible for skin elasticity, hydration, and firmness, so supplementing with collagen peptides can reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture, and promote a more youthful appearance.

“Collagen peptides are really, really helpful for your skin and joints. Women who take collagen peptides have stronger bones and stronger muscles.” Noted!

4. Multivitamin

Multivitamins can benefit overall wellbeing at any age, but did you know they can also be great for anti-aging? Youn suggests this for mature women who want to improve their skin and prevent premature wrinkling. Dr. Anthony Youn, MD, a plastic surgeon and skincare expert, says to look for a "multivitamin that contains vitamin A, C, D and zinc." He explains that these vitamins have "antioxidants that are great at defending the body against free radicals." Vitamin C in particular is "essential" when it comes to the "production of collagen," he adds.

5. Antioxidants

Next one on his list of go-to anti-aging supplements is antioxidants. Youn states that you should try a supplement that contains a "plethora of antioxidants like resveratrol and curcumin." These antioxidants will help to fight free radicals. They are also "on the cutting edge in anti-aging medicine and they can help you live longer and healthier lives."
