Sydney Sweeney Recalls Training For Her Role In 'Christy'
The Euphoria star has been one of the biggest faces in the media this year, and it looks like one of the most serious and difficult projects she took on was playing Christy Martin in Christy, a boxing drama and biographical film that came out earlier this month.
The film is based on the life of a professional female boxer, who rose to fame in the 80s and 90s for her incredible talent in what has been known as a male-dominated sport. Christy was the first female boxer to be inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame, and when it was revealed that the blonde bombshell would be playing her, many film enthusiasts were shocked, and some even doubtful.
Over the last few months, the 28-year-old has been opening up about her training process for the film, not just learning about boxing to portray Christy, but also having to bulk up and take on the figure of a female boxing champion.
"When I was training, it was really hard to put on all the weight," she admitted to People. "I was eating so much food. Like, everything you could possibly imagine. And then I was downing protein shake after protein shake and taking a lot of creatine, which just makes you bloat."
Sydney Reveals How She Lost 30 Pounds In 7 Weeks Following 'Christy'
Although the actress has mentioned that she loved how strong she became while training for the athletic film, she ended up needing to slim back down and look like herself prior to filming, not long after the process was over.
Once filming wrapped, Sydney had to prepare to film both The Housemaid and the third season of Euphoria, and she reportedly only had about seven weeks to get back to her former figure. Not only did she take on a "super clean diet" and practice "a lot of cardio," but she also had to reverse some of the training habits she picked up.
"When you stop working out and taking all your protein shakes, you lose muscle super fast," she explained to People, noting she ended up losing around 30 pounds before moving on to her following projects. "It's the first thing to go before fat. So, that, I dropped within two weeks."
Despite what some may think, it wasn't just diet and cardio that helped the Anyone But You star slim back down - she also attributes the quick turnaround to her genetics.
"I don't want to say this is super easy," she noted. "But I've been a very active person my entire life. Like, I was a super active kid, and I've always kind of just stayed active and always had a good metabolism. I can gain weight, but I can lose it too."
