Sydney Sweeney has been in the headlines for a while now due to her love life updates, but now, her name is being thrown around due to a recent incident involving her dog.

After the Met Gala on May 5th, the actress carried her German Shepherd puppy on the streets of New York City in front of numerous paparazzi photographers. Sydney Sweeney Carries Her New Puppy On The Streets Of NYC After The Met Gala

The Euphoria star has been through a lot this year, and other than her most recent breakup with her fiancé, Jonathan Davino, she welcomed a new "family member," a German Shepherd puppy named Sully, who is the second dog she owns.

She introduced the young pup to her fanbase on Instagram toward the end of April, writing, "So far in our two weeks together, he's become my set best friend, my bowling partner, my nap buddy, mutual water enthusiast, and travel companion."

She shared several pictures and videos of herself and Sully, including ones of him on set with her, playing with her in a yard, and going on adventures with his new owner. While the puppy has clearly already experienced life out and about with Sydney, when she brought him to New York City for the Met Gala, people weren't thrilled.

After the luxurious event ended at night on May 5th, Sydney left her accommodations at the Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan, which was swarmed with fans and paparazzi waiting for their favorite stars to step outside, carrying Sully in her arms, getting ready to take him for a late night walk. She wore an all-white suit and still had her blonde hair styled from the event.

In the photos released from her post-gala appearance, Sully looks a little bewildered by the chaos waiting outside his owner's hotel, and animal lovers feel angry with the actress for putting him in front of all the flashing lights and noise.

Internet Users Accuse Sydney Of 'Tormenting' Her Dog After The Met Gala

Besides walking outside with him in her arms, the 27-year-old also attempted to get Sully to walk around near the hotel and presumably go to the bathroom as she lightly tugged on his leash. Pictures of their trip outside caused alarm amongst animal lovers and other internet users online who felt like she should've made other arrangements for her pet.

On Instagram, users sounded off in the comments, writing that they felt the actress was "tormenting" her new puppy and that they felt bad for him.

"Why is she tormenting that poor puppy?" one Instagram commenter asked.

"Overwhelming that dog all for attention," wrote a user. "Sad."

"That poor pup is scared to death," commented another.

"She shouldn't have him there," wrote an additional user. "Dogs aren't a fashion accessory."

Other people on Instagram noted that it looked like the dog was experiencing "anxiety" in front of all those people and alleged that Sydney was carrying him around all of the post-gala chaos just for the photo op with him. Some of her fanbase attempted to defend her, writing that she knew what she was doing as an experienced dog owner, but it wasn't enough to drown out the backlash.

A video was later posted to Reddit of Sydney attempting to get Sully to walk around past the paparazzi that evening, but she had to pick him up, leading members of the site to write, "This is so cruel; take that poor baby inside!"

While the Anyone But You performer has yet to comment on the criticism she's received, she continues to seem very happy with her new furry addition.
