Taco Bell customer says “this is outrageous”
Would you like some meat with that shell? A recent viral post on Reddit’s r/shrinkflation subreddit titled “Wtf happened to Taco Bell? This is outrageous…” has started a heated discussion among customers who say their favorite menu items have become smaller than ever.
The original poster shared a photo of their “pathetic” taco, writing: “Maybe a spoonful of meat, a sprinkle of cheese, and 1 single shred of lettuce (not an exaggeration).. the tortilla is next.”
Other users quickly jumped in to commiserate, saying they’ve noticed the same trend at their local Taco Bell locations. “Vote with your wallet and never support that location again,” one user urged.
Some customers say the chain used to have a better reputation when it came to affordability and consistency. “There used to be a time when Taco Bell was among the best,” one commenter wrote. “They packed them full. I’d always get five hard shell tacos. This was back in the ’90s/early 2000s. Went last year for the first time since and it was a joke, but this takes the taco. They used to be $0.59 back then and they were loaded. Now they’re over a dollar and there’s barely anything in them. Sad times we now live in.”
Other commenters couldn’t believe what they were seeing. “That’s gotta be a joke!! Gotta be?!” one exclaimed, while another quipped, “Thinner than my patience…” Many agreed that the chain seems to have cut back on portions, with one user adding, “They always put a sliver of protein in their product. They want you to pay for double meat.”
However, not everyone is ready to stop going to Taco Bell just yet. Some commenters suggested the issue may come down to inconsistency between franchises. "Taco Bell has gotta have some of the least consistency across locations in fast food," one person wrote. "There are some really awesome ones and some really terrible ones." Another chimed in to say their local restaurant still does it right: "By me here in Lakeview, Chicago, my Taco Bell really loads them up with filling. I’m old school and if I say they’re good, you can count on it."
What do you think? Have you had a good Taco Bell experience lately—or is "shrinkflation" an inevitable issue we just have to accept or boycott?
