When you’re on a weight loss journey, it can sometimes be really difficult to ignore fast food places.

Sometimes, you simply crave fast food or need the convenience of a meal on the go. When some people think of Taco Bell, they immediately picture junk food that’s high in calories and can throw them off track for their weight loss.

However, that’s actually not the case! While Taco Bell may still be a fast food restaurant, it has some low-calorie options on the menu that can help you get your on-the-go Mexican food fix without totally hindering your progress. Read more about six Taco Bell menu items you can eat on a weight loss journey below.

Soft Taco Supreme

Sometimes, there's nothing like a classic fast food soft taco to get you that little 'junk food' adjacent fix you occasionally look for while trying to lose some weight. The Soft Taco Supreme at Taco Bell is flavorful and delicious but adds a few more veggies into the item to bump up your fiber and the overall satiating factor.

Sara Hormachea, MS, RD, CDCES, BC-ADM, in her article for Nourish, wrote that if you wanted to make this already fairly low-calorie item even leaner, you could "swap" ground beef for grilled chicken.

Cantina Chicken Bowl

This is another recommendation from Sara, who writes that the Cantina Bowl is a "heartier meal," containing chicken, rice, black beans, avocado-ranch sauce, sour cream, lettuce, purple cabbage, pico de gallo, guacamole, and cheddar cheese.

The bowl contains 490 calories, which is not bad, considering you get to enjoy some protein, rice, sauces, and fiber-filled veggies. This is one of those fast meals that can help you enjoy a tasty dish on the go without feeling guilty.

Crunchy Taco

If you love a good crispy texture, then the crunchy taco is a tasty and satisfying option for you! It's also an excellent pick for anyone who is gluten-free, as the crunchy taco shells at Taco Bell don't contain any gluten.

While the taco simply contains beef, lettuce, and cheese, Sara notes you can "add tomatoes and beans" if you want to increase the fiber content and make it even more filling. Ask for two, and you have a yummy, crunchy meal.

Black Bean Chalupa Supreme

If you are trying to eat less meat and also want to lose weight, on your next Taco Bell visit, check out the Black Bean Chalupa Supreme, which is packed with protein-filled black beans, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and a three-cheese blend.

This vegetarian chalupa contains 340 calories, making it a simple and affordable meal for those looking to eat in a calorie deficit.

Doritos Locos Tacos Supreme - Nacho Cheese Flavor

Amber Clemens, a weight loss coach on TikTok, shared some of her favorite weight loss-friendly Taco Bell orders with her followers, and one of them was the Doritos Locos Taco in the Nacho Cheese flavor.

Doritos are such a yummy chip, and if you've been avoiding them because you're trying to lose weight, you can get the occasional fix via this zesty order.

"The supreme version is 190 calories and eight grams of protein," notes Amber.

Cheesy Toasted Breakfast Burrito with Bacon

On the road during breakfast time and don't want to risk falling off track by ordering a McGriddle? Try breakfast at Taco Bell! Amber suggests ordering the cheesy toasted breakfast burrito with bacon, but you could also get sausage if you want.

While this filling and indulgent burrito may be lacking in some vegetables, it's not lacking in flavor, and it's not too high in calories.

"It's only 250 calories and 13 grams of protein," says Amber, who calls the burrito a "pretty decent option."
