Have a Skin Prep Routine

Before you apply a stitch of makeup, make sure your skin prep is up to task. This means cleansing, toning, and — most importantly — moisturizing your skin and the eye area before you apply makeup. A great eye cream or serum with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid can go a long way toward helping to smoothen and brighten your eyes. And while you are starting to apply your eyeshadow and liner, you can even apply eye masks beneath your eyes to de-puff the area and add extra hydration. Remove them a few minutes before you add concealer under the eyes to allow the serum to absorb and dry.

Prime Your Eyelids

Your eyelids can have purple, blue, or red discoloration and an uneven skin tone that doesn’t match your face. Before you apply eyeshadow and liner, add eyelid primer to your lid and blend well. This barrier allows makeup to go on more smoothly and it can even brighten the shades of your shadows and make them look more vibrant. It also helps prevent makeup from caking and smearing, which is especially crucial if you have hooded eyes.

Contour Your Eyelid

You have a palette of eyeshadow shades and are kind-of confused about how to use them? One way to open up the eye area and make it look like you have a wider lid is by applying a medium shade to the area that separates the upper and lower lid, a lighter shade on the lower eye lid, and then blending outward and upward. This contour method create the illusion of a more open eye.

Remove Fallout From Under Your Eye

It’s inevitable that eyeshadow and liner may flake off and fall beneath your eye. One reason you should delay applying concealer and foundation until after you’ve made up your eyes is because removing fallout from under your eye also means removing your other makeup. Clean up the area with a Q-Tip and Micellar water before moving onto the next step.

Apply Under-Eye Concealer

If you have a lot of discoloration under the eyes, a color corrector in a peachy tone will counter blueness. Apply a primer under your eye, followed by color corrector, and then a few dots of an under-eye concealer in a shade that is 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone. This will brighten up your entire eye area. Set the makeup with translucent powder.

Fill in Your Brows

A filled-in brow frames the face and looks more youthful. Brush your brows up and fill in any sparse areas with a pencil that matches your brow color. Then secure your brows with a gel to keep them looking polished.

Apply Faux Lashes

Faux lashes are NOT just for the young. With so many styles from which to choose, you can apply a full lash that makes your eyes instantly look more Bambi-like, or choose a few individual lashes to apply here and there to fill in any sparseness.

These tips are so easy to follow and are all you need to level up your eye makeup routine and make yourself look polished in minutes.
