It’s no secret that busy mornings mean little to no time left for making a nutritious and delicious breakfast. However, you definitely don’t want to skip breakfast altogether, it’s arguably the most important meal of the day. Luckily, drive-thrus offer tons of quick options for when you need breakfast in a pinch.

There are plenty of fast food menu items to choose from when you need breakfast when you’re on-the-go. While stacked breakfast sandwiches and loaded lattes seem like the most delicious options, they’re often also the unhealthiest. Following a few simple tips and tricks will show you which menu items are good alternatives to unhealthy fast food breakfast sandwiches that destroy your metabolism.

Greasy protein-packed sandwiches may seem like the heartiest fast food breakfast option, however, orders like sausage, egg, and cheese sandwiches aren’t a healthy option for you and your gut. Eat This, Not That! has ranked many fast food restaurants’ sausage, egg, and cheese sandwiches to be some of the worst fast food breakfast options out there.

For instance, Dunkin’ Donuts’ sausage, egg, and cheese croissant sandwiches are a whopping 720 calories and contain 20 grams of saturated fat. Yikes! A slightly healthier sausage and cheese sandwich option would be one from McDonalds. The Sausage McMuffin has 400 calories and 10 grams of saturated fat, but of course, no egg.

Luckily, there are fast food breakfast choices that are much healthier options for you. In an interview with Prevention, registered dietitian Amy Shapiro recommends the Starbucks sous vide egg bites due to their nutritional value. “The Starbucks sous vide egg bites are super high in protein, have adequate calories (170 to 350 calories) depending on flavor, and contain no carbs,” Shapiro said.

A good general rule of thumb is to look for egg white menu items that may even contain pepper or spinach ingredients so that you get something flavorful while also being mindful of calories and fat.
