It’s the one diehard diet rule you’ve been tricked into believing: don’t eat carbs when trying to lose weight. The truth is however, not all carbs are bad for you, in fact, some carbs can even help to boost your metabolism. That’s right, it’s time to finally see the weight loss results you’ve been waiting for thanks to some “good” carbs.

The one guilt-free carb that will keep your metabolism going all day, according to nutritionists, may surprise you. Of course when you think of “bad carbs” you probably think of bagels and loaves of bread, right? Well, it turns out that one type of bread is actually really great for your metabolism.

Sprouted grains, including sprouted bread have become increasingly popular on grocery store shelves and restaurant menus–and for a good reason.

According to Healthline, sprouted grain bread may aid weight loss and blood sugar control due to its low carb content. Sprouted grain bread is made from whole grains that have begun to sprout, or germinate, Healthline further explains. Breads made from grains that have started to sprout add lots of nutritional value to your favorite go-to carb.

Celebrity nutritionist Kimberly Snyder breaks down different types of carbohydrates and their benefits to THE/THIRTY.

“There are three different types of carbohydrates: complex, simple, and fiber,” Snyder said. “Complex carbohydrates (known as starches), include whole, unrefined grains, and fiber. Simple carbohydrates (also known as sugars), provide the body with fast energy and include refined starches, sugars, as well as fruits.”
